What Is a Gaylord Box?
A gaylord box is a large bulk container designed to sit on a GMA pallet (48Γ40 inches) and hold bulk materials in quantities that would be impractical in standard shipping cartons. The name comes from the Gaylord Container Company, which popularized this format in industrial packaging. Today "gaylord" refers to any large bulk bin in this size class, regardless of manufacturer.
Traditional gaylord boxes are made from triple-wall corrugated cardboard β they're single-use, susceptible to moisture, and need to be recycled or landfilled after each trip. PP corrugated gaylords solve both problems: they're reusable 50+ times and 100% waterproof.
The shift from cardboard to PP gaylords is driven entirely by economics. At scale, a PP gaylord that costs 8β12Γ more than a cardboard gaylord but lasts 50+ uses has a cost-per-use 4β6Γ lower than cardboard. The break-even point is typically reached in under a year at normal warehouse cycling frequency.
