Wood crates with grain absorption cannot guarantee equivalent surface log-reduction. This distinction matters for USDA APHIS biosecurity compliance in HPAI surveillance regions.

Ventilation Design for Live Bird Transport

Live bird welfare during transport is regulated under USDA APHIS and by major integrator welfare programs. Adequate ventilation is the most critical container specification — birds in inadequately ventilated crates experience heat stress that results in mortality, bruising, and condemnation at the plant.

Vent Area Guidelines

Elipacko can engineer custom vent patterns for your climate, bird species, and integrator welfare specification. Standard patterns (round hole, elongated slot) are available without custom tooling on volume orders. Custom patterns require tooling investment — contact Elipacko for tooling cost and amortization at your expected order volume.

Biosecurity Protocol

Sanitation Between Flocks

PP poultry crates should be sanitized at the processing plant before returning to the farm — not on arrival at the farm. Crates that travel from a processing plant to a live-bird farm without full sanitization carry contamination risk in the opposite direction of the product flow. Most commercial integrators specify plant-side crate wash as the standard protocol.
